First Aid Trainer Course
Before individuals are recognised as first aid trainers, they must have an entry-level teaching qualification. What does it mean?
A PDLSG (Planning and Delivering Learning Sessions to Groups) Award or the ETA (Emergency Training Academy) – Level 3 Award in Education and Training qualifications are required.
This Award in Education and Training qualification gives the teaching award accepted by all awarding bodies as these courses are nationally accredited.
With this, the successful candidate will be allowed to teach any subject in the basic emergency care trainer courses they have experience in.
NOTE: Any UK awarding organisation will not accept teaching accredited first aid awards such as RFQ or SCQF Qualification with just a first aid trainer award.
First Aid Training Qualifications UK
The PDLSG or ETA teaching qualification award must be paired with relevant experience to complete the full requirements. How to do this?
To teach first aid for adults you’ll need a current Level 3 First Aid at Work Certificate.
To teach first aid for children you’ll need a current Level 3 Paediatric First Aid Certificate.
Equipment
To fully run your own courses, you have a set of equipment for training apart from the basic equipment. Use the checklist below:

You’ll require public liability insurance to gain approval from awarding bodies and protect them in case the public blames them for causing damage or injury.
First Aid at Work Trainer Courses
These are the minimum required to deliver accredited First Aid at Work courses are:
- A current 3-day Level First Aid at Work qualification
- A formal 5-day “Level 3 Award in Education and Training” qualification
- A formal 1-day “Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment.“
The last two can be completed in one 5-day course, such as the “Level 3 Award in Teaching and Assessing First Aid Qualification“*.
The Level 3 Award introduces teaching and training in various contexts.
In the case of basic emergency care, this will provide the knowledge trainers require in further training or a work environment.
First Aid Train the Trainer Course
The award is recognised for the teaching and assessing of First Aid at Work to the current HSE standards.
The accredited First Aid Trainers (Level 3) certificate over three days costs £375 plus VAT, including the trainer manual, awarding body trainer certificate and a separate teaching award!

First Aid Instructor Course
There are a number of offered first aid trainer courses. Most of these programs can be completed in about 3-5 days.
They can deliver first aid training through face-to-face and distance learning.
To teach first aid, you must complete Advanced training for assessing trainers in basic emergency care.
You must ensure that these first aid courses are designed to allow you to teach and assess the full range of Level 2 and Level 3 Awards in a range of First Aid qualifications.
It should also include Level 3 Paediatric First Aid training and must comply with the latest Resuscitation Council UK guidelines.
